SPRING 2020 SEASON UPDATE

Hello MLAX Families,

I hope you are all healthy and staying sane with your kids at home. We parents have suddenly become teachers, school cafeteria staff, coaches, lax passing partners, and in some extreme circumstances: VERY afraid goalies.

MLAX has been in consultation with AYL leadership and the other member clubs. As a result of these conversations, the spring season has been effectively cancelled. The MLAX board of directors, after a thorough review of the financial picture has come to the decision of crediting or refunding approximately $150 to each paid participant in our spring program. The operating principal of MLAX has always been that we run on a break even basis. The credit/refund amount reflects the expenses that have already been paid (including indoor time, equipment, coaches expenses, insurance, website and merchant account fees) and the anticipated refund from the AYL.

Here is how the credit/refund process will work:

  • Credit: Do nothing and the amount will be placed in your MLAX account online and can be used toward any future programs.
  • Refund: Email Krista at   with the following information and a check will be mailed to you:
    • player name
    • name check should be made out to
    • mailing address

The process of credits and refunds will begin in early June as this is when we anticipate being refunded by the AYL.

AYL late summer league play:

The AYL is proposing play to start in August. Below is the message from AYL President Craig Randall with some details. There are many assumptions being made, key among them is that we can provide an opportunity to play in a safe environment.

Boys and Girls Lacrosse:
Message from Craig: We will be moving the 2020 Lacrosse season to start on August 8th, 2020. This season will run until August 31, 2020 and each team will get 6 games. We will adjust game play rules as needed. We understand this may conflict with Fall sports and will schedule games on week nights and Sundays to avoid any potential scheduling conflicts.

Note to current 8th grade families. The AYL is committed to offering the August season to our current 8th graders.  I am aware of the possible conflict with these players starting high school during the period that AYL is wanting to begin play. I have reached out to both the AYL and CHSAA to determine if this will allowed per CHSAA rules. I have not received a definitive answer. Updates will follow on this. On a more personal note, I am bummed for our 8th grade families. This was supposed to a time of soaking up the last season of youth lax and sending them on to high school with a smile on their faces.

MLAX has opted to separate the handling of our spring season and the possible late summer season. This means that we will be dealing with the credit and refund of the spring season first, and then open registration for possible August play. The date of opening registration for the late summer program is TBD.

Please be patient as there is no crystal ball to say that play will start or be permitted by a certain date. MLAX strives to remain flexible in these unprecedented times and ready to play if and when it is deemed safe.

Thanks for your continued support of our club, and as always: GO MOUNTAIN!
