NO Practice Tonight
by posted 02/28/2020

Team,

We are NOT going to practice tonight - too many conflicts.  Reminder our first AYL pre-season tourney game tomorrow is at 9:00 AM with 8:30 AM Warmup (Geared up and ready to roll) at David Lorenz  Field #5 (8422 S. Colorado - C470 & University Exit if coming from West).    We are down to a hearty 13 players for tomorrow - so please let me know ASAP (if you've not already) if you will be missing.    Also, we'll do our quick parent's meeting between the first and second game tomorrow - sorry for the false start for those expecting the mtg on Tuesday this past week.

Shout with any questions and see you tomorrow.

Thanks,

Gray

PreSeason Tourney Update & Potential Friday Practice
by posted 02/26/2020

All,

Glad to get a couple nights work in with the team - less than ideal lacrosse practice environs, but we made some hay.

Couple quick updates - our schedule for this Saturday Pre-Season tourney has changed slightly (as below) and the change gets us done a bit earlier.   We still start at 9:00 AM and the field location has been set - David Lorenz Field #5 (8422 South Colorado Boulevard - C470 and S. Colorado).   Looks like we are down to 14 players for this tourney with injuries, hockey state championships and the final throws of the ski season - so please if you've not already let me know asap if you will be missing this Saturday's tourney.

Finally, potential practice on Friday Evening this week from 4:30 - 6:00 PM at Rooney Road Fields - we have been allocated field time for Friday - but I know a few folks have other commitments and, as of yet, the field is still covered in snow.  So I'll confirm if we are a GO for Friday practice this week on Friday morning.

That's all I know for now - shout with any questions.

Thanks,

Gray

Practice Plan this Week - Indoors
by posted 02/24/2020

Team,

We have some gym time this week and will practice tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights from 5:45 - 7:00 PM at the Evergreen Montessori School gym (6979 County Hwy 73 - in Marshdale)   Please bring Helmets, gloves and sticks only - no cleats, basketball/tennis shoes.    The gym is 3/4 size - so a bit tight, but its all we could find this week for indoor play.

We'll spend some time in team meeting, a bit of whiteboard work and get some early season stick and agility work going - will be good to have a little bit of team work in prior to this Saturday's 3 game tourney (no news yet on the tourney field location in Highlands Ranch)

I know a number of our dudes are still playing hoops and tomorrow night's practice presents a double header - thanks for the flexibility and promise we'll send em home tired.

Shout with any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Gray

Lax Week Ahead - Preseason Tourney Schedule 2/29
by posted 02/23/2020

All,

Hard to imagine we'll be out on Rooney Road fields Tuesday night - of course we'll play it by ear, but very unlikely given the forecast.  As a result, we're developing a plan B for this week with some indoor gym time up here in Evergreen -  hopefully for Tuesday and/or Wednesday nights.   Please stay tuned - our logistics may come together at the 11th hour.

We do have our schedule for the AYL pres-season tournament on Saturday 2/29 - we'll play 3 games (9:00, 10:50 and 1:35) as below all down the hill at TBD Fields in Highlands Ranch (TBD as AYL is still figuring their playable fields - I'll let you know as soon as location is secured):

We'll shoot for 8:30 Warm Up at the TBD filed Saturday - sorry for the early alarm on Saturday.    Please let me know if you will not be able to join the team for this pre-season tourney.

Shout with any questions or concerns.

Best,

Gray

Lacrosse Practice Begins - Next Week
by posted 02/19/2020

Hi Team,

Hope everybody is great and excited to get things rolling towards our spring MLAX season.  Clearly Mother Nature is thinking more skiing and hockey with our late surge of winter weather and snow covered fields.   Here's some skinny on our season ahead (please read to the end):

Practice

Practice will kick off next week - with our initial practice on 2/25 - down the Hill at Rooney Road Turf Fields from 4:30 -6:00 PM.   MLAX has secured some other indoor/turf field times down the hill - but as of now, this is the only time allocated to our team.  Currently, Rooney fields are covered in snow but I'm hopeful that our CO sun comes out and does the work over the weekend - stay tuned.

With the anticipated tough field conditions for the next week or two (three, four ...) we'll try to get creative with some indoor options both down the hill and in Evergreen, and on any patch of green we can find.

Once we get into a recurring practice rythmn - the regula practice plan is:  Stagecoach Field 6:00-7:30 PM - every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Parents Meeting

I'll hold a short mandatory parent's meeting at the tail end of our first practice next week 2/25.  Please plan to attend.

Regular Season Schedule

We will be playing in the AYL U15 Red division this Spring - schedule availability is TBD.  Games will run roughly from 3/14 to 5/16ish.  Note that the AYL season does run through spring break - but I'll make every effort to reschedule any games for that week (I know I won't be around).  Still waiting to get the AYL pre-season tournament schedule which is quickly approaching for the weekend of 2/29 or 3/1.  We'll get a couple early games in on one of those two days - so stay tuned.

Looks as though we will not play an abridged CYLA schedule this year as we did last year (nor will we play the CYLA Tourney) - but I do plan to schedule a few games against CYLA upper White/Red teams to compliment our AYL schedule - so anticipate 10-12 total regular season games.

End of Season Tournaments

Still not finalized - and appreciate your feedback on interest/availability - but here is the tentative Spring Tournaments schedule

  • Boomtown CO Championship - 5/30-31 - AFA Fields in C Springs
  • Rocky Mountain Jamboree - 6/6-7 - Denver OR Boomtown - Colorado Games - AFA Fields (same weekend)

Potentially ....

  • Steamboat Lax Jam - 5/23&24 - the Steamboat tourney is back ... trying to get some recon on caliber of teams etc. - but always a fun time in the Boat.  Please let me know your appetite to return to this tourney (yes, no, maybe).
  • Boomtown Classic - Boulder 6/27&28 - Know that some of our dudes will be starting their summer club seasons with this tourney - but have had great success fielding MLAX teams in this tourney in the past - so if you want to win it, stick with your Home Town team :)  Please let me know if you would NOT be available for this tourney.
  • Reminder - that all of these tourney's will have team fees ~ $50-60/player/tourney

As you know, this team was made up from the assessment  process from a pool of nearly 60 U15 MLAX players - so the expectation is that players on this top team will attend all practices and all games during the season (with the exception of school and family commitments) and that the MLAX U15 team is your extra curricular priority through the spring tourney season ending 6/7.  Please let me know of any known conflicts as soon as you're able.

Finally, we will have a conditioning run/test the first practice - so get those legs stretched and those sticks firing.   As always, shout with any questions or concners.  See everybody next Tuesday!

Best,

Gray

Lacrosse - Wall Ball Reminder
by posted 02/01/2020

Team,

As we draw within about a month of the spring MLAX season's start - and with a near 70 degree day on us tomorrow - wanted to send a quick note of encouragement to the team to get out on your wall or get some field time in.   Nothing like starting the season with your stick skills on fire.  I know a lot of the dudes are in the midst of basketball, indoor lax, ski season - but as the weather and time allows, get those lacrosse sticks out!

More news to come in the next couple weeks on the season kickoff, parent's meeting, practice schedule etc. - but in the meantime, get out on the wall as often as you can.   Below is a great Daily Wall Ball regime that will get and keep you sharp.

Looking forward to the start of the season and please shout with any questions or concerns.

Best,

Gray
