Lax Practice / Parent meetings Monday!
by posted 02/21/2020

Team,

Our first practice will be indoors at the Bergen Meadow Elementary gym this Monday, 3:30-5pm. The odd timing is because we at the mercy of indoor space availability right now.

We will be loosening up with some general fitness activities as well as refamiliarizing ourselves with the game. :)

For those who are traveling from the south side of town, it will probably not be feasible to arrive by 3:30 (especially if we get a lot of snow that afternoon). That's OK! We would like for each player to arrive when they can, and will be looking to spend a few minutes individually with each player and your parent(s) as you arrive or depart practice.

The purpose of these brief conversations will be to distribute/review some of our organizing documents and administrative materials for the season, and to discuss each player's thoughts/desires about what position(s) they'd like to play, specific skills they'd like to build, as well as the coaches' thoughts on the same.

So please plan to have your player arrive when you can, ready to have fun, loosen up, and to discuss the season together.

Thank you!

Snypr Lax App and Wall Ball Challenge
by posted 02/21/2020

Hi Parents,

We want to encourge good stick handling skills on our team, so we have fewer turnovers.  Therefore, we are going to hold periodic contents for our kids, with a prize that goes to the kids with the highest number of reps.  Kids can use a rebounder or flat surfaced wall.  Or they can catch with a friend, sibling, teammate or partent.  (By the way, we got a new rebounder for Stan, so anyone who wishes to have our old rebounder is welcome to it.  I'll give it to the first person that requests it.)  The easiest way to track the repetitions is to use the Snypr App, which can be downloaded to a smart phone or iPod.  I have included instructions to download the app if you do not already have it.  It may prompt you for a credit card, but it is free.  And you do not need to puchase the sleeve -  you can you any armband that holds the device; even a tight-fitting sock.  The first contest will start Feb 24th and go until March 2nd.  The player with the more reps receives a $10 gift card at Wild Game.  Here is a great video to show a wall ball routine that involves differnet throws and switching hands.  By 5th grade, players should be competant throwing and catching with both hands.  If your player is not, these drills will help them catch up.

Snypr App Instructions:
  1. Ask your players to download the SNYPR app and sign up (available for both iPhone and Android).

  2. During the in-app signup process, each player will be asked to enter a Team Code. Ask your players to enter your unique 5-digit Team Code in the app: 50588; note - if a player has already downloaded and signed up for the SNYPR app, they can also enter your Team Code in the Settings menu (gear icon).

  3. Once they enter your Team Code, they will join your team Mnt Lax - Danielson and be able to see where they rank vs. their teammates on the in-app TEAM leaderboard.

MLAX - Welcome to MLAX 5th Grade Brooks Lax!
by posted 02/17/2020

Team:

Welcome to the MLAX 5th grade lax spring season!  My name is David Brooks and together with Jeff Danielson, Eric Hemmer, and Ryan Howe we are going to be your sons' coaches this spring. We all have players on the team and have coached in some form in previous seasons.

I'd also like to thank those parents who are not official MLAX Assistant Coaches, but have volunteered to assist the team this season.

Our plan for this team is to have a great time!  We have 17 players on the roster which means lots of game-time for all players, and fun practices.

Practices will be up-tempo and fast-paced, so please come on time (or, better yet, early!) and ready to roll.

We tend to overcommunicate and ask that you do the same.

If you aren't going to make a practice or game, please text me or another coach to let us know.

Here are the logistics for the season:

Practices will start this Thursday, February 20th, from 4:30-6pm at the Rooney Road soccer complex, 101 Rooney Rd. Golden, Co 80401

Beginning Monday, February 24, our schedule will be as follows:

Monday:  4:30-6pm at Stagecoach Field
Wednesday:  6-7:30 at Marshdale Elementary Turf Field (Middle)
Friday:  6-7pm at Stagecoach (focus on skills advancement / game prep)

Games will start Saturday, March 15 (weather permitting) and will be every Saturday (except spring break) through May 2nd.  We'll get the schedule probably the 2nd week of March, so we'll just have to be patient until then :)

We will then have the AYL tournament the weekend of May 9th.  If we win a couple games there, we will play in the AYL finals on Saturday May 16th.

We will also plan to play in the Steamboat Springs youth Lax tournament Memorial Day weekend (May 30th/31st in Steamboat).  More details to follow on that - THIS IS HUGE!!!

The season always takes a little to get rolling as we deal with weather.  Please be prepared to be flexible for practices the first couple of weeks as we adjust to the weather.  We can always help with carpool rides to practice and/or games so please don't hesitate to reach out if you need help getting your dude to the field.

We will hold a quick parent's get together this Thursday at the Rooney Rd practice so we can all meet each other and go over some administrative stuff.

That's it for now, please reach out via email/text/call/whatever if you have any questions or the like.

We are in this for the fun of it, so come along for the ride!  See you Thursday!
