Change Team:
Please check the updated schedule
by posted 04/18/2021

Hi all,

Please take a moment and look at the updated schedule on the mountain lacrosse website.  Our first game back will be April 30th in the evening, followed by a double header Saturday, and then a Sunday game.

First, please have your kids have a stick in their hand each day!  Second, if they take the next two weeks off instead of working on their fitness, they will be worked by the end of the Sunday game.  They need to stay active.

I realize our schedule is not ideal, but at least it’s not cancelled! When we start on April 30th, be prepared for lax-palouza.  Please plan on having your kid attend all games, or we will not have a 2nd midfield line for back to back games.  If there are any issues, let me know ASAP.  We will try to borrow players if possible.  The challenge is all MTN teams are going to have a crazy schedule going forward, so I think our roster is our roster.

Cheers

Hi all,

Trying to balance this with a little chaos at work as well.  We have a total of 13 kids on our roster.  We cannot have more than 10 show up.... sigh

Our team until next Friday
by posted 04/15/2021

Hi all,

Not all folks responded to my email, but I needed to know how many kids were quarantined for sceduling purposes (i.e. can we play the game this weekend).  EMS would not release names, but let me know how much of my team would be affected.  We have a total of 3 kids under quarantine.  Our team got lucky given the high number of kids at EMS who are quarantined now.  We will move our game this weekend and replay later in the year hopefully.

For kids that are not quarantined, we will be holding practice at the normal times.  I do not know who the 3rd kid is, which is fine.  However if we have 8 kids show up to practice, we will need to stop practicing.  The rules for MTN lacrosse are very clear.  If you are quarantined for school you are quarantined from lacrosse as well, please respect this.

Sorry for the bad news, but I am hopeful no new cases will occur and we will get back a full team ASAP!

COVID Quarantine Please Read
by posted 04/14/2021

Hi all,

There has been 1 or 2 positive cases of COVID at EMS and there are a lot of students that have or will have a letter from EMS saying your child needs to quaranteen for 10 days.  If you feel comfortable, could you please let me know if you kid will not be able to attend practice for the next 10 days.  I will not share the information.  The reason I am asking is we have the option of resceduling games for later in the season.  Depending on numbers of kids that need to stay home, we will either keep rolling or pause.

Sorry for the bad news

Game Today
by posted 04/10/2021

Hi all,

Please show up 1 hour before game time today so the kids are dressed, settled, and ready to play!  Our game is at 11:30 so please arrive no later than 10:30.

A few things:

1)  All players must have a cup and mouthguard to play.  PLEASE double check this before you drive.

2)  Parents must were a mask to watch the game and keep social distancing.  JeffCo just went back to yellow and there was discussion about not playing ,so please follow the rules.

3) Have your kids read the game plan before you drive this morning.  We gave it to them after practice last night

4) Lacross is a contact sport.  I have pasted the rules on hitting so you all understand what is legal and what is not.  In addition to the rules below, if a big kid totally runs through a smaller kid it will be a penalty, even if the hit was legal.

Looking forward to seeing how the play today, its been to long!

Kevin

From a Youth Lacrosse Hitting from a Referee

Five simple rules to not get a flag on a hit:

  1. Head up. Don't initiate contact with your head.
  2. Between the numbers, in the front. Don't hit high (above the shoulders) or low (below the waist) or from behind. All those will be carrying penalties (from 3 mins unreleasable if it is to the head to a 30 second technical if it is simply a push from behind)
  3. Hands together Cross-checks are super easy to avoid, just keep your hands together. There is no set distance (though some say 6") but the important part is that your hands and not your crosse is what is initiating/completing the hit. If you dive in with your hands apart and the crosse between your hands is the first thing to hit their body, I'm throwing my flag
  4. No running start Essentially, don't come tearing across the field to line a guy up. We'll let you have two-three steps, but anything more than that is risking a flag. This is also a really good way to get a different penalty (like from behind, to the head, etc) because the play will change in front of you as you go in for the hit
  5. Don't hit a defenseless player This is the new rule that people are going to have to get used to. How I've explained it to coaches is that the player needs to at least see the hit coming and have the ability to try and minimize it. If a player is looking over their shoulder for a pass, don't hit them. If they are coming up from scooping a ground ball, don't hit them. Nothing blindside (in man-ball situations) and nothing post shot (this used to be a late hit, but can be slid into this category and the punishment level goes up).

I let a lot of hard hits go if the player is following these four rules. Lacrosse is a rough game, and it should stay that way for the most part, imo. But a lot of the rules are there to take away the really violent things that really have no place besides to hurt someone. There are better ways to win back possession without hurting someone.
