Great couple of games this past weekend. Even without a W, we went toe to toe with the best team in our division both days. It is great to see the boys playing as a team.
On the defense side, we are all not chasing the ball around the field and played stronger on our man and supported our teammates with slides.
On the offense, we are still learning positional areas we need the middies and attack to set up in. Our opponent's zone D killed any drives to the net, so we had to back out and take harder shots from the outside.
Still lots of work to be done, but it won't be today in person. Sometimes watching others can help you grow as a player as well. With that, please have your athlete watch this link:
#2 Duke played #3 North Carolina. The link is only 25 minutes long which sucks since it's basically a highlight reel for all the goals. So you do not see all the D stops. If you can find it via another service (ESPN+, YouTubeTV, etc) the full game will be a better experience. Nonetheless, please have your athlete watch for the following:
Spacing of the players, way out working to spread the opponents D out of the Hub
Feeds/Drives from X
Shots on goal from the outside, not every goal can be drives to the net for a crease cranker
watch the poke checks, extend that stick out before moving to body
Man responsibility -- uncovered cutters into the defensive Hub accounted for the first 5 or so goals.
Extra Credit Quiz, if you do not understand any part of the terminology above, your athlete should be able to explain. If not, 5 burpees. Got to get the conditioning in somehow. ;-)
For the rest of the week
Wednesday we will be subject to field availability due to this moisture.
Thursday we are on Marshdale and the weather looks to be much better.
Look forward to the weekend, we have a game on Saturday and Sunday (make-up)
Let me know if you have any questions.
